Description:

1971 Jeep CJ CJ5

So after years and countless hours...I am putting my rare vintage jeep on the market. This jeep is a 1971 Jeep CJ5 Renegade II. Only 600 of them were made. It has a highly desirable drivetrain in it and is an absolute blast to drive. I purchased it back in 2010 from a gentleman in Hot Springs Arkansas. He gave me all the documentation for all the things he did to it and some from the owner in 2002. Lots of upgraded and new parts have been added to it since then. It's mechanically sound and very reliable. It turns heads everywhere it goes.

If you are looking at old jeeps like this (66-86) you need to be aware of some things. Most people will throw some paint, fresh fluids and tires on these old jeeps and tell them they are rebuilt. A lot of time was spent on making this jeep safe to drive on the road and to be reliable. It has never been off-road since being rebuilt. This is not your standard CJ5 and it has lots of history that comes with it. Being very rare, it certainly is a conversation piece to everyone that asks about it. This jeep drives better than any other CJ5s on the road. It stops when you want it to stop, it stays straight on the road at any speed with no wobble, and it's easy to steer. You wont find that on any vintage jeep. It was built to drive safely on the street mainly and to kick butt off road if it needed to but never did. Every Piece of rubber on it was replaced with new. Every Copper Wire was removed and replace with new. Every seal, gasket, and anything else that did or could have deteriorated was replaced or upgraded. All the drivetrain parts were rebuilt and/or upgraded. My intentions were to keep this Jeep for over 30+ years so that's why I did all that work to it. So with that in mind please be aware of the "little things" that need to be done to a vintage vehicle when you're in the market for one. Those little things add up to a large number. This Jeep is a prime example of how to do things the right way so it will last for decades....while saving thousands of dollars in labor/blood/sweat and tears...

That all being said, This is not a fully restored vehicle so don't expect it to be perfect. Its 46 years old! It does have some minor cosmetic flaws to it. If I were to keep it I possibly would fix the little issues it has.... however.... When you build up a vintage car, Paint should be the last thing to do. In this case...that's exactly it. The only thing that needs to be done is paint it. It does have a very nice shiny grey paint job but its an old paint job(2002) and is not "showroom" perfect. It looks great as its sits and people always complement on its condition. Believe it or not, people actually respect it more because of its little flaws and it certainly doesn't make you look like a trust fund baby winner while driving it. This Jeep is a working mans car. Not a "I'm swimming in money and own many pristine vintage vehicles with leather bound documentation on each one of them" kind of car. This is the real deal and a one-of-a-kind vehicle. I hate to see it go but life's priorities tend to change every decade or so. I do have the all the "regular folks" receipts for everything that was done under my watch.

Also be aware that I am not in a hurry to sell this Jeep. I will not accept low ball, tire kicker offers on it. My price is the price...unless you want to trade for a brand new ZO6 corvette....then I'm game. The person that buys this will understand how much time and money it takes to get one of these Jeeps at this level. This jeep has been cared for meticulously and needs to go to a buyer that understands and respects that. I actually added up all the parts and time of all three of the owners (including myself) had in this Jeep and it equals over $40,000.00. I know that you can buy jeeps online cheap...but you will end up spending more fixing those than on this one. If you are one of those people that want a money pit project than this is not the jeep for you and I wish you the best of luck.... However....if you want a jeep that will last a lifetime that you can pass down to your children....then this is the investment for you.

First Gear is not synchronized with 2nd and 3rd. You ALMOST have to come to a complete stop to shift into 1st. That's how they did it in the 70s. Bless their heart.
