Mercury not Ford - Original unmolested condition, low mileage survivor.

1940 Ford Other

This 1940 Mercury ( not a Ford) is mostly original with only 18,000 miles showing on the odometer although it may have more. Comparing this car to a 40 Ford is a challenge - it is 3" wider and 3" longer and no panels match although it looks identical to a Ford. She also has a 95 hp motor vs the 85 hp in the Ford.

I purchased this car in July 2009 from a gentleman in Riverside California who was attempting to collect every model of every year between the inception of the Mercury in 1939 to 1950. He was only interested in low mileage cars and this 1940 was in his collection for 20 years, rom 1989 to 2009 before he started to sell his cars. It had previously been in a collection in Wisconsin from 1972 until 1989.

I have replaced only items that needed to be replaced based on wear. To my knowledge, he car has never been restored or repainted, lthough I had some minor damage repaired and was advised that some panels on the car appear to have been painted at some time in the past. The interior is all original, lthough it is hard to believe that it is 75 years old.

This car runs strong and is used as my tour car. We have driven the car up to 500 miles in a weekend and have never had a problem.

She is a wonderful candidate for a tour car or for a ground up restoration although it would, o some thinking, e unfortunate to lose the originality when she runs and looks so good with her 75 years of patina.
