1974 Ford F-100 Explorer

Ford F-100 ExplorerLong bed, 1/2 ton - 302ci V8, 4 speed manual. Factory Paint

Truck has the original factory engine, transmission, and paint. Undercoated when new. The engine is very tight, uses no oil, and has very good compression. The transmission is a Borg Warner T 18 granny low four speed. All the synchronizers in it work like new. All four corners of springs have been replaced, all new brakes (stops straight/fast), new gas tank, etc. The front end has been completely rebuilt, new king pins, new linkages, etc.

There are two small areas of rust, one in the passenger side door, and one behind the right rear tire. The truck originally came from Pocatello, Idaho, so it has seen a little salt. But it’s in great shape for it’s age especially for the body and paint being in original condition. Very reliable and simple to work on. The undercarriage is in really good shape, as the truck was undercoated when it was new. Some of the undercoating is starting to peel off now revealing the original paint and rust free undercarriage. Under the hood, it is factory with the exception of headers, a new radiator, and Pertronics electronic ignition module. Wiring is factory original and in good condition

A little history from the previous owner Robert, who owned it for 10 years or so before me. He was a trucker who lived in Alamogordo, NM. The story goes that he found the truck behind a local warehouse covered in tree sap. He believes this is in part what helped preserve the original factory paint so well. The man who sold him the truck said, his daughter was Robin Lynn Macy who used the truck for her tree trimming business before going on to become one of the founding members of the Dixie Chicks. Robert said, “As her dad told me, she was the one who started the group. Her name is Robin Macy, she owns the Bartlett Arboretum in Belle Plaine, Kansas. I always thought about driving Orange (truck’s name) up there and blow her mind. That was one sad looking truck when I got it!”

Reliable, great running truck. I wouldn't hesitate to drive this truck across the country today.
