FOR SALE: The best car I've ever owned! I hate to see it go, but it's time to sell this guy and move on after 24 years of fantastic service. Maintaining it is becoming more than I can do myself so I am selling it, but this would be a perfect car for someone who can tackle all the odds-and-ends associated with a 24 year-old car (see below). READ BELOW AND BID ACCORDINGLY!
This car was bought new by my dad in 1993 and owned by him until I bought it in 2000. It's always received regular and preventative maintenance (oil changes, etc.) and was promptly repaired if something broke. It's always passed inspection, including this year. It was used mostly for highway driving and rarely went off-road ... and only when camping. Always treated well and never abused or beat up.
MECHANICAL
1. I strongly *suspect* that there is a HEAD GASKET leak, but I cannot prove it and have not had the engine removed to confirm this or not. If true, I cannot fix this myself -- I am not a mechanic -- and I cannot afford to have it done or even verified. So I am selling the car for cheap. I have not driven the car since this "diagnosis" as I do not want to make the situation worse, but I do start the car occasionally and warm it up. If it weren't for this issue, I'd still be driving it every day!!
2. This car has never been in a wreck. The only major repair was a transmission rebuild back in 2004 (completed by mechanics at a Ford dealership).
3. It has a clean title.
4. 4WD (high and low) work.
5. Power steering, locks, and windows. All the power windows work but can only now be controlled from the driver's side door controls.
6. Heater works. AC does not.
7. Battery is old but still works.
8. Tires are not new but still pass inspection. Spare tire OK.
9. Defroster wires in rear window mostly do not work.
10. The factory radio/cassette was changed out for a single CD player/radio 15 years ago, and for the past 10 years the Pink Floyd CD "Wish You Were Here" has been stuck in the CD player and I cannot eject it ... so you get the CD FREE with the car! The CD plays, so does the radio.
11. Intermittent wipers and defroster all work.
12. Rear hatchback and window open/close OK.
13. All major seals and gaskets were replaced five years ago.
14. An electric (plug-in) radiator heater was installed two years ago.
15. Power rear view mirrors both work.
COSMETIC
1. Original paint job on the car, which is faded, scratched. Body is rusted and peeling in places (see pics) with an occasional dent or scrape.
2. This car shows RELATIVELY LITTLE rust damage underneath, since it spent most of its life in Utah where the use of road salt is minimal and not like it is here!
3. The interior is all original, but shows evidence of use and raising a family (stains, rips, tears, etc.), but overall it's in pretty good shape (see pics).
4. Rear seats fold down = a ton of interior space.
