Description:

1971 Fiat 124 Sport Spider

For sale is my 1971 Fiat 124 Sport Spider 1600cc with 5 speed manual transmission.
I bought the car 2 years ago and did a mechanical restoration. This includes the following;
Complete engine rebuild:
Cylinders honed
Crank polished
New Hastings piston rings
New rod and main bearings
New thrust washer
New seals (front, rear, aux, cam seals, etc..)
New freeze plug
New oil pump
New water pump
New thermostat (175F)
New radiator/coolant hoses
Basic valve job done with new valve guide seals and all valves reshimmed to spec.
New light weight gear reduction starter
New oil pressure sender, temp senders
New distributor cap,
New distributor rotor
New ignition wires
New ignition condenser
New timing belt
New alternator belt
New tensioner
Flywheel resurfaced
New clutch kit (clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing (proper all metal one!) and pilot bearing)
New clutch return spring and stop.
New engine mounts
New transmission mount
New vacuum lines
Brake system rebuilt:
New brake master cylinder
New brake servo (acorn adjusted to spec)
New brake calipers (x4)
New brake discs (x4)
New pads (x4)
All new flex hoses and even a hard line was replaced.
Driveshaft rebuilt with all new U-joints and new flexdisc (guibo/dougnut)
New ignition switch/tumbler
New reverse light switch
New front wheel bearings
New steering center link
All new tires including spare (5 new tires)
Steel wheels refinished with silver hammerhead coating
I have receipts for almost everything above in either digital or paper form. The engine only has about 200 miles on it since the rebuild.
All new fluids of course, engine oil (10w40), gearbox oil (VR1 20w50), steering gearbox, differential oil, brake fluid and coolant. No leaks as far as I can tell.
The undercarriage is rust free. It had suffered from several oil leaks in the past so there is a light coating of free rust proofing that has protected it over the years.
The convertible top is about 3 years old and is in good shape. No rips in the seats but the passenger side headrest has split open. The bodywork is OK. No cracks in the glass and the brightwork is good. Has lots of door dings and scratches (people are not very considerate these days!). Can definitely do with some PDR and paint. Heater is bypassed.
I've also corrected a lot of the electrical wiring that the previous owner had messed with in order to use a broken ignition switch and aftermarket radio. The old butchered center console and WOW STEREO!! was thrown in the garbage and a virgin center console found and installed.
I also did the "brown wire" fix. And was in the process of installing headlight relays but not finished. I have new Bosch relays and good quality automotive wiring included in the sale.
As you can see the tail lights are mismatched so I am also providing a set of matched pair tail lights (see photos link below).
The carburettor has unknown rebuild history and appears to be the original 28/36 DHSA2 with vacuum secondary. I don't think the secondaries are working. I am including with the sale a freshly rebuilt 32/32 DMSA which has mechanical secondaries and included is a later style single plane intake manifold. This combo should put some extra pep into your step.
The car starts and idles fine, revs nicely. Good solid oil pressure. Absolutely no overheating issues sitting in 90F California traffic jams (Ouch sunburn!!). The gearbox shifts nicely. I drove up to the Mount Hamilton observatory with the local Fiat club and it was an absolute blast up the twisting mountain roads. So many other participants were overheating coolant or boiling brake fluid but I had no issues whatsoever. I was very impressed at the way it all felt.
Please look through the many photos (includes extra taillights and carburettor pictures) and video. Links below. The car is currently registered and insured in Santa Clara, California. Car is sold where-is, as-is. You're welcome to come test drive it. Please only bid if you're serious. Payment by cash or bank wire transfer.
