MR NORM OWNED GRAND SPALDING DODGE AND WAS KNOWN FOR HIS ABILITY TO GET THE MOST OUT OFHIS CARS. SOME CALL HIM THE "CARROLL SHELBY" OF MOPAR. GOOGLE "MR NORMS" FOR HIS LEGACY IN THE WORLD OF MOPAR MOTORSPORTS.
Mr. Norm's in Chicago specialized in improving on an already good thing. Mopars that came through Mr. Norm's doors were dyno tuned to perfection and usually customized to meet the customer's wants. Mr. Norm's cars usually were trashed by their owners on the track and few exist today. Finding a Mr. Norm's Dodge in original, almost like-new, unrestored condition is almost unheard of... much less a 1969 Dodge Hemi Charger!

A little history on the car... A Texas drag racer bought the car brand new from Mr. Norm and specified that he wanted a hood scoop and hood pins. A pair of hood pins, from the lift-off hood Six Pack cars, were mounted in the hood and a small fiberglass scoop was mounted over a hole cut in the hood. These modifications were done by Mr. Norm. Other modifications include an 8 quart engine oil pan and strategically placed holes punched in the radiator core support and the K-member for extra weight savings. It is unclear if Mr. Norm's did these modifications or one of the first owners that drag raced the car.

The car spent several years in Texas where it was a stock class drag car. The track time was believed to have been limited. During the 1980s, the original owner sold the car to a Canadian racer, who did little with the Charger after getting it home. The Charger spent most of its time in the garage, due to financial woes. The bank eventually seized the Charger.

A Studebaker enthusiast purchased the Charger from the bank's sale next. He rebuilt the Hemi engine back to stock specs. He then parked the Charger in his warehouse where it remained for years. After realizing he was never going to take interest in it, like he did the Studebakers, the Charger was sold again.

Mopar fanatic, Stan McCutchen, picked up the car and brought it to Toronto for his friend, Roger Ritter in 1997. Due to setting in storage for so many years, with little use, the Hemi engine had never really been broken in after the rebuild and was smoking pretty bad. Once again the Hemi engine (yes this is still the original engine) was torn down, bored .030 over, and rebuilt back to stock specs. Roger also installed a set of correct 15" rims and reproduction red lines and a reproduction Year One exhaust system.

The Charger made its way back to the Chicago area where I purchased it in 2014. The guy I bought it from chose to leave it alone due to its surprisingly original condition... and so did I.

At Moparfest 1999 in New Hamburg, Ontario, Mr. Norm himself told Roger Ritter this was the best original condition surviving Mr. Norm's car he'd ever seen. He also said "this is the only car we built that I've seen unmolested”. He signed the trunk lid, giving the car his seal of approval as correct and authentic.
