Description:

1968 Dodge Power Wagon W300

1968 Dodge Power Wagon Van Pelt Fire Truck with 10,600+ original miles. This truck is basically a time capsule, it's originality is amazing. From the original rubber floor mat to the windshield washer squirter bag to the dealer installed 383 V8, the truck is close to perfect and fully functional. I had planned on removing all the fire equipment and just having a very original W300 but after receiving the truck, I don't have the heart to follow through with that plan. I know there are some other woogies that would do just that, so if the new owner so chooses to do that, that would be their choice.

10,600 original miles. Basically, everything is working from the PTO driven pump to the rotating top beacon but it is a near 50 year old truck.

The 383 V8 is a fairly rare option, likely dealer installed. Even after sitting for 4 weeks, it cranked this AM starting like a new truck. It runs very extremely well and smooth, it's almost hard to hear running. The truck drives and stops great. Mechanically, the truck is near perfect. This morning, I noted a passenger side valve cover has a slight leak and the gaskets have been ordered. The drivetrain is in excellent shape. There is some seepage from the transfer case and pinion seal but there are no leaks after sitting in the same spot for weeks. There are also dual batteries. There is actually an original windshield fluid bag that runs to the squirters.

The interior of the truck is near perfect minus the center of the seat is fraying, likely due to simply age, not use, please see the photos. Other than that, it is in amazing shape. The dash pad is perfect - never seen one in this condition. The windows roll down like new, the doors shut solid, no sagging, & the door panels are in perfect shape. There is a pressure gauge on the lower right side of the steering wheel and a battery switch on the driver's side. All the beacons and lights are operational, all very nicely marked. The siren is operated by a dimmer/bright switch on the floor - actually has one on both the driver's and passenger side floor.

The siren itself is pretty cool besides being crazy old school loud, it takes a minutes to "spin" down but there is also a siren brake on the dash to stop it. All the gauges appear to be functioning, minus the tach. There is a chrome lever that engages the PTO. The radio is still in the truck.

Van Pelt did the fire truck conversion. The exterior of the truck is in great shape, the paint will still shine. On the bed there is a little paint oxidization but applying a little wax makes it shines again - I wanted to show it in "it's original form”, so it has not been detailed. It was stored indoors for the entirety of it's life at the fire department and then for years while it was in a private collection. Only for the last three months has it been outside. There are many chrome accents around the truck. There are many of the original accessories hook, ax, reel hoses, hard hoses, etc....The reel hoses are chain driven and have a switch on the interior and push buttons on either side of the chassis. The original wood planks and metal strips are in good shape in the bed. I was told by the previous owner all the fire equipment is operating condition. He used it to "hose" off other vehicles and equipment. I have no idea of the size of the tank, previous owner said the tank will leak down water over the course of a couple days. There is a small dent on the driver's side of the grill (see photo), this is the only notable flaw I see on the truck. Warn locking hubs on the front drive axle shine like new.

All the fire equipment appears to be bolted in and looks to be easy to remove. Naturally, there is plumbing underneath the bed. The tailgate is in perfect shape. There is absolutely no rust anywhere on the truck.

The truck is better in person than it is photos. It was recently used at a Formula 1 party in Austin, Texas and stole the show with many teams taking their photos on the truck.

I have never seen an original Dodge Sweptline era truck in this condition, much less a 4x4 Power Wagon - even the dash pad is perfect. This is a 50 year old truck, but is in amazing shape, it may have issues but I have disclosed what I know, please ask questions - I am not a car dealer and will answer to the best of my ability.

The truck is used and is being sold as is, where is, with no warranty, expressed or implied.

The truck is for sale locally and this auction can end at any time.
