1973 Datsun Z-Series 240

This 1973 Datsun 240Z as a competitive vintage racer. Previous owner campaigned intwo seasons of Midwestern Council vintage/historic race group, a long-standing sanctioning body whose classes largely mirror the SCCA.

I planned to autocross with it, but other projects got in the way, and now it needs a new home!

Mechanical details include a mild race L28 with a Holley 4150HP 390 CFM carburetor and Schneider cam, S13 230SX 5-speed, big Wilwood brakes.
A vintage Arizona license plate reflects the car’s long-time Western state residence which helped it avoid serious rust. Apart from a fiberglass hood, all other panels are metal. The paint looks very nice and shows some orange peel, runs or clouding. The windshield is Lexan, the rear window is Plexiglass, and side windows and their trim have been removed. The chassis plate was missingwhen the shell was sourced so there is no identifying chassis number.
Note the fully integrated 1.75 x .095 DOM steel cage. Bolt-on plastic fender flareshave been fitted along with headlight covers, a ducktail rear spoiler, and a front air dam, while wheels are 15″ x 8.5″ with Hoosier 245/50 R7 front and 265/50 R6 rear tires, both with good remaining tread. The car has only had two DNF’s which were due to failed diff spider gear welds and a loose half shaft, respectively–both issues have been addressed with upgraded components and the car has run without issues since.
The interior has been completely stripped and prepared for competition.Notable items include a Sparco seat with cam-lock harness (dated 2014), a custom dash and instrumentation, a floor-mounted fire extinguisher, roll cage, 12 gallon fuel cell, brake bias adjustment knob, and transponder.
The 2.8 liter, 280Z-sourced L28 runs an E88 head and Schneider 270-80F cam and was built by Zeke Motorsports of Park Forest, Illinois in 2010. Details include an Arizona Z intake manifold, Holley 4150HP 390 CFM 4bbl carb with center-hung floats, MSD ignition, finned and baffled oil pan, competition header,single-exit exhaust and an aluminum radiator with electric fan. Weight is estimated to be approximately 2,250 pounds, and power is sent rearwards through a billet flywheel, Centerforce dual friction clutch, 240SX 5-speed and welded R1180 4.11:1 differential with a Perrin finned extra gear oil capacity cover
Additional suspension and driveline details include a custom billet aluminum mustache bar, Wolf Creek Racing CV-style half shafts, Modern Motorsports billet stub axles, sectioned coilovers with Koni 86101 adjustable inserts at all four corners, 325 lb. front and 275 lb. rear springs, and four wheel adjustable camber plates.
The car is also equipped with Arizona Z billet aluminum front lower control arm/camber rod combo kit, one-inch front sway bar, Techno Toy Tuning fully adjustable rear control arms and Arizona Z big brakes consisting of 12.2″ aluminum hat Wilwood rotors, Superlite front and Dynalite rear calipers.
