Description:

1970 Datsun 2000 Roadster

My 1970 Datsun 2000 Roadster (Fairlady-Japan) I've owned for 30+ years. This car has been sitting in my garage mostly for the last 19 years since moving from Houston to Indiana. Not enough time in the year here to keep an older sports car on the road. This car runs and will drive but needs a bit of a tune, misses at higher RPM, idles rough, thought it was carbs and have a rebuilt set (included) ready to go but have not had the time to install them. May also need valve adjustments and other items a car that has been sitting for a long time will need. Interior is pretty nice, top is good with a couple very small tears. Engine is all there and in good shape, AND the real cool thing about this car is it has AC, may be the only one! I did use the AC when in Houston and it worked fine but needs some tweaks (idle speed control, belt tensioner). The frame is solid and the body very good with the exception of a few small wheel well spots, a dent in the front apron and a dent in the driver door (partially filled in and rattle canned to cover). Comes with original trunk luggage rack, boot cover and tonneau cover and hard top (top needs TLC and porthole windows installed (included). (tow hitch welded to frame, towed a motorcycle trailer to Shaster on year!) I could fill the page with info about this car but would rather you ask questions, can add pics if requested. I am a private seller and do not ship, you of course can arrange that if needed. Thanks and good luck!

Note: I was asked about the engine compartment ID plate, this one is long gone although I do have an aluminum remake ready to be stamped and installed, I was waiting for the repaint. I have checked the engine SN and it is original to this car. I pulled this engine in about '93 to replace the clutch. A couple pics added show the vents in the back panel for the A/C, also I have a fair stack of repair manuals and other literature. Also, have a couple small boxes with assorted spare parts, distributors, brake cylinders, carbs (new needles) and manifold, head gasket, etc. For those of you who do not know these U20 motors the head gasket commonly "weeps" coolant on one corner, this one is no exception, the "weep" has never interfered with the running of the car, been there for 30+ years.

As this is getting close to the reserve and not having many questions asked I feel obligated to point out a few items. The current paint is very weak, in the pics it does not look too bad but up close it's obvious. The brakes are working but are mushy from sitting so long, the belt to the AC compressor is off as I was trying to fabricate a belt tensioner and did not put it back on. The belt will drive the compressor but will squeal occasionally when accelerating (uses new 134a freon). The rotary switch on the center console where the lighter use to be turns on the AC and 3 speed fan. The turn signal switch does not alway return, the aux lights are disconnected and need a relay. All other lights, brake lights, interior light and most dash lights work. May need new dash gage regulator, fuel and amp have been erratic. I could go on with many little things I continue to recall but bottom line it's up to you the bidder to ask questions and perhaps even come see it before the end of the auction it if possible. - please don't forget this car is nearly 47 years old.
