1972 Chevrolet C-10 Cheyenne Super

1972 Chevrolet Cheyenne Super Short Bed

Up for sale is a 1972 Chevrolet Cheyenne Super finished in eye-popping Tangier Orange and White with a Parchment colored interior. This truck originally came from the factory loaded with options including the highly desirable short bed, 400 big block engine, automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, air conditioning and tilt steering column. It is a resto-mod so has seen some changes along the way but is still mostly original other than the drivetrain and gets thumbs-up and comments everywhere I go.

I bought this truck about 4 years ago after looking for several months nationwide for a well-optioned 1971-72 Fleetside.I found it in a neighboring state and drove it home about 3 hours away.I have done a few mods but most of the hard work was already done by a previous owner.I rarely drive the truck so it is primarily a garage queen but always gets a lot of comment whenever I take it out. I love this truck but I am moving this summer and can't take it with me, otherwise I wouldn't even be selling it.

Some mods that I am aware of include the following:

  • 400 small block Chevy engine with a late model serpentine drive belt assembly and 4 barrel carburetor, aluminum heads and roller rockers.
  • R&M Specialties spark plug looms.
  • Dual exhaust with long tube headers, Flowmaster mufflers and custom mandrel-bent exhaust pipes with down-turned tips.
  • Turbo 400 automatic transmission.
  • Electric cooling fan with remote relay.
  • Remote starter solenoid. Although an unconventional mod on a Chevy truck, this is an actual GM part and was done to solve hot start issues including new heavy duty battery cables and a starter blanket.
  • Under dash Auto Meter oil pressure and temperature gauges with backlit faces.
  • OEM center tachometer was added but is not original to the truck.
  • Hermosa RetroSound bluetooth stereo system with external microphone, hands-free calling, wireless audio streaming, 25 watts x 4 channel RMS power, AM/FM RDS tuner with 30 pre-sets, auxiliary USB port and dual RCA inputs, dual RCA pre-outs for external amplifiers and dual color illumination.
  • Keyed-alike door and ignition locks.
  • Black plastic bedliner with tailgate cover.
  • 4" front & 2" rear drop kit installed.
  • Amerex 2.5lb Halotron fire extinguisher with aluminum Drake Enterprises quick release mount.
  • 16x8 American Racing Torq Thrust II wheels with P225/60R16 tires.
  • Single Rally wheel for a spare currently in the bed.
  • Original 1972 owner's manual emissions manual in a reproduction plastic cover. This also includes a 1972 protect-o-plate but this is not original to the truck.

Problems or issues:

  • Gauge cluster is not original and came from a bigger series truck with an air gauge that is not connected. The fuel gauge, speedometer and tachometer gauges work but the others do not. The speedometer needle is a little bouncy when driving but appears accurate.
  • The clearcoat is peeling in several places on the hood.
  • Rust in the truck bed. This is the biggest issue with the truck and was likely caused by water trapped under the plastic bed liner. The rear of the bed by the tailgateappearsto be the worst and could probably be fixed with a patch panel.
  • Rust on the lower driver's side door jamb. This appears to be surface rust only due to worn paint but the entire jam appears solid.
  • Stress cracks on inner door window frames.Otherwise the doors appear solid including the bottoms.
  • The heat and air conditioning system does not work.It is missing the compressor and hoses but everything else appears to be there. The controls appear to be jammed.
  • Small leak around the speedometer cable (transmission fluid).
  • Small leak around the lower radiator hose or drain (coolant).
  • Speakers suck. There are two, both are located under the seat but am unsure of what brand or type.
  • Steering column shows some play and needs to be rebuilt.
  • I suspect the tailgate was replaced at some point because the white paint does not extend here. I do have some aftermarket chrome trim pieces that need to be added.
  • A hole was cut in the front cross brace to route the transmission oil cooler lines. Not sure why this was done but I have a replacement cross brace that will require rerouting the lines.
  • Right side frame notched to clear passenger side exhaust header.
  • Woodgrain trim is faded and/or cracked. The rear passenger trim piece is currently secured with screws.
  • Steering wheel is cracked in a couple of places.
  • Seat cover is worn/discolored with cracked vinyl. This is likely a replacement and is probably not original anyway.
  • A few dents, dingsandscrapes in the finish but looks good from a few steps away.

The good:

  • Top of the line trim with lots of factory options including the highly desirable short bed configuration. This truck was not cut down from the more common long bed.
  • Includes most of the original trim and badges (note badges were refinished using lacquer paint).
  • Solid body panels including all quarter panels, doors and cab corners.
  • All horns, lights and turn signals work excluding the bed light.
  • Estimated less than 5,000 miles on drivetrain since installation.

Other than a few mods this truck is largely unmolested with solid and straight panels and a long list of highly desired factory options. It is far from perfect but is ready to drive anywhere and would make a great candidate for future restoration with another big block. The truck has been garaged since I have owned it and I have probably put less than 1,000 miles on it in that time. The odometer currently reads 44,350 miles but I cannot verify this is the actual mileage.

I have a clear title in hand ready to sign over to the new owner. The truck comes with some paperwork going back a few owners and a few extra parts but what you see is pretty much what you get. The truck is located in Beaufort, SC and is sold in"AS IS" condition without any warranty or guarantee expressed or implied. Shipping and transport is the sole responsibility of the buyer.

I have the truck priced at what I feel it is worth but feel free to make a realistic offer, the worst I can do is say no. I have included over 180 high resolution photos below so make sure to let them load to see the truck from nearly every angle above and below. Thanks for looking!
