Description:

1984 Chevrolet Camaro Z28

This 1984 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 features a unique conversion by the now-defunct Auto Form Corporation, who converted hardtop F-bodies into these two-seater roadsters.

The Auto Form roadsters were custom-built to order starting in 1983. GM would drop ship a car to Auto Form, who would handle the conversion before shipping the car to the GM dealer, with a customer ready and waiting.

Auto Form took those factory-fresh F-bodies, and immediately cut the roofs off. A massive chassis brace was welded in behind the front seats, tying the floor and door sills together. Additionally, a bolt-in chassis brace was added under the car to help return rigidity -- as much as you could expect from a third-generation Camaro -- back into the chassis. The new hole was then capped with the custom two-layer fiberglass top you see, which used custom hinges in conjunction with the original hatchback's lift struts to open, allowing a small convertible roof to be manually closed over the front seats. What's unique with the Auto Form conversion, compared to most of these third-party conversions, is that it is a manual convertible top. When the manual top is down, it folds into a compartment where the rear seats once resided.1983 was the premier of the Camaro Roadster conversion. I have been told that there are less than a dozen 84s still on the road today.. here is your chance to own one of them.

Though the company is now gone, it's estimated that only a fewer than 1,000 were ever produced, between 1983 and 1987, both in Camaro Z28 and Trans AM/Firebird forms. The original conversions cost around$5,500, or about $13,000 in today's dollars, adjusting for inflation -- nearly a third of the third-generation Z28's original purchase price.

Rated at 190 horsepower, the 305 is no screamer, but keep in mind that a Z28 coupe in 1984 was thesecond-fastest car availableat the time in the United States; with a 0-60 time of 7.8 seconds, only the Corvette was faster (with a 0-60 time of 7.3 seconds from its Cross-Fire
It is a Z28 with the 305 H.O. same as the Monte Carlo SS, not a lot of power but back at that time that was the best you were getting in a Camaro or Firebird it does have aluminum rear drums which is pretty cool like the Buick T Types.
These cars are rare to find in general, to be completely original with all the factory markings from GM, the AutoForm plant, this is rare. I bought this car about 4 yrs ago and really never did much but shove it away in the back of the garage. The car does start and drive but makes a noise like a stuck lifter so I don't really start it that often. I put fuel stabilizer in the tank but it really should be drained out. Looks like it sat for some time but inside is in really great shape along with majority of the rest of the car, It has an IL clear Title.
I have seen these cars for sale as there is one on here now but they are never 100% original, and they have had been painted multiple times, no stickers etc. This car is as original as you can get. There is the number on the door jamb and then inside the rear key hole area behind the tag where if it had the hatch, you can see the number 284 written inside.
The car had a bra on the front end so the hood has rust where that was at, there is a little bit of rust around some of the snaps and surface rust as you would expect in various places.

If you want to see other pictures I have ask, I will send them through here.
