1978 Cadillac Seville

1978 Cadillac Seville

The Seville, introduced in May 1975 as an early 1976 model, was Cadillac's answer to the rising popularity of such European luxury imports as Mercedes-Benz and BMW. The Seville became the smallest and most expensive model in the lineup, turning Cadillac's traditional marketing and pricing strategy upside down.

For consignment a clean, garaged 1978 example of the Cadillac Seville produced to compete with the ever increasing threat of European luxury cars entering the country. A smaller more compact Caddy, with all the trappings of luxury the larger cars offered at the time.

Exterior
With all steel panels straight and true, and definitely no rust in sight, this square and rectangle design car is bathed in beautiful Sable Black. Chrome all around looks fabulous, badging is near perfect, and bumpers are very nicely preserved. A black vinyl top also in very nice condition is seen. On all 4 corners are wire wheel covers with a Cadillac centered metal badge.

Interior
Really nice padded and shiny, Antique Medium Saddle leather is tucked and rolled, and stitched to perfection to cover the door panels. Seen on these is also the door pull which is lacquered wood, a litany of power toggles (windows, locks, mirrors, and seats) and some wood appliqu surrounds. Turning out attention to the passenger compartment is more rich shiny overstuffed leather which covers dual large front buckets, and a spacious bench in back. The original dash fronts the big seats and uses padded vinyl for the top and wood appliqu for the gauge cluster and cruise control, climate controls, radio, lights, and power antenna and sunroof. Noted hanging from the dash is a factory CB radio. Clean gold carpet floods the floors, and above a nice headliner is wrapping around a functioning sunroof. A note to the trunk which is lined with unbelievably clean gold carpeting!

Drivetrain
An original Oldsmobile (yup that's what Caddy was using) 350ci V8 in clean unrestored condition sits with a maze of wires and hoses. This engine has Bendix EFI, a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission, and a 10-bolt rear with 2.56 gears.

Undercarriage
Lots of patina, some road dirt, no rust and some blowback of leakage from what is described as a healthy power steering leak. Floorpans are solid and unibody is strong with no rust showing. A cushy independent coil spring suspension is on front, and leaf springs quell the motion on the rear. Power disc brakes are all around

Drive-Ability
Getting into this car is literally like getting into it in the showroom in 1978. It is in beautiful condition, starts right up rides like a dream, and all accessories are working just fine. It has nice acceleration, and actually handles well for its mid-size. The test track was no match for this car.

A nicely presenting car on the exterior with the paint and chrome, as well as the padded top. Interior shows well, with some wear but mostly nice. The engine starts well and remains fairly clean and corrosion free.
