Description:

1976 Cadillac Eldorado convertible

1976 CADILLAC FLEETWOOD ELDORADO CONVERTIBLE

1976 was thought to be the last of the American Luxury convertibles. Fortunately it was not and Cadillac re-introduced the convertible for a short lived 2 years after in 1984 and 1985 with the Eldorado Baritz, a smaller and less powerful Cadillac. The 1976 convertibles were considered instant collector items when they arrived and speculators soon drove prices sky high. Once factory production ended and dealer supply was depleted, prices rose up to 2or 3 times the MSRP. They built 14000Eldorado convertibles that year which was an increase of 156% from 1975. This was the result of GM announcing that the 1976 would in fact be the last of the Cadillac convertibles and that this would be their most prestigious and expensive model to date.

The styling and comfort of these large cars was second to none and nothing has ever replicated that since. It has the iconic 8.2 litre (500 cubic inch V8) which Cadillac produced from 1970 to 1976 and these engines still remain the largest engine ever produced in a production vehicle. It has 190 horse power with 360 ft pounds of torque. It is rated to get 13 miles per gallon with top speed of 110 miles per hour. All this is mated to the 3 speed Hydomatic FRONT WHEEL DRIVE transmission. 1976 was the pinnacle year of this massive andunique drivetrain, which people still seek out today for other vehicle applications such as hot rods. The Eldorado has a full perimeter frameand is 234 inches long (18 1/2 feet) and almost 80 inches wide (6 1/2 feet). It weighed a whopping 5263 pounds.

This Cadillac was purchased from the previous owner in 1977 when it was almost new. He and his wife enjoyed the car for nearly 40 years until his estate passed it on to his son. His wife loved driving the car and called it "the big great whale" according to his personalized licence plate translated from the Hawaiian language. It was painted aprox 15 years ago and still shows well. On all four corners of the car there are plastic spacer pieces between the bumpers and the metal body, these pieces are the areas showing wear with some warping on the front left piece and some paint flaking off the rear right one.(I have posted picture) The convertible top is in great condition and it comes with a solid2 piece fibreglassparade bootfor when the top is down. (painted to match the car). Custom Aluminum wheels were added and still have the emblems of his oilfield company on the centercaps. These wheels give it a custom touch without looking too flashy. The interior is all original and in great condition with the leather seats showing minimal wear.It starts well, performs great, runs great and drives down the road like a dream. (powerful big dream). I have taken pictures in the sun and in the shade so you can see how the color shows.
