The MKIII offered amenities... such as roll-up windows carried over from the BJ7 series, burled walnut veneer dash, revised center console, and updated rear suspension in Phase II examples. Built between 1963 and 1967, over 17,000 were produced between Phase I and Phase II cars. Achieving 150 horsepower via a twin SU carbureted inline 6 cylinder engine, the MKIII raced from 0-60 in 9.8 seconds; fast for the time period. Today, the MKIII variant is the most coveted of the 3000’s and is one of the quintessential British motor cars representing lasting, and consistent value among car collectors. This particular Austin Healey 3000, chassis number HBJ8L40604 and engine number 29KRUH15245, is a 1967 model that received a full nut and bolt restoration by marque specialist, BRC, of Philadelphia. There was not a piece of this car that wasn’t not touched by them and their expert craftsmen. Much like all of their restorations it is fantastically done and in most likely better than factory finish. The car has covered a mere 1200 miles since the completion of its restoration. It has been slightly modified with 5-speed transmission and rear disc brakes to aid in the drivability and everyday usage. It is finished in the extremely delightful color combination of Healey Blue with an earthen brown interior. This car is offered with a BMIHT certificate, spare and boot cover.EXTERIORBody & PaintBRC are experts at Big Healey restoration and it really shows through the exterior of the car. The paint is smooth and the color is fantastic. The body is straight and all body gaps are all consistent and straight. The cars has only covered 1200 miles since its extensive restoration and it really shows, the car looks new throughout.Glass & TrimAll the glass on the car is clear and clean throughout with no issues to note. All lights and indicators are free of any issues and look as new. The chrome is clean and free of any blemishes throughout. All rubber components are supple and clean, with no signs of degradation, much like you would expect from a recently restored car.WheelsThe chrome spoked wire wheels are in excellent condition with plenty of shine and no issues to report.Notable FlawsThere are no notable flaws to report. The car has only 1200 careful and conservatively driven miles on it since the complete restoration was done and the condition reflects this perfectly.INTERIORSeats & SurfacesThe brown leather seats are in fantastic condition with just a bit of creasing beginning to occur, simply showing that they are breaking in and becoming more comfortable. The leather on the rear seats and the center console are smooth and looks brand new. The dark brown carpets are clean and free of fading or wear. The wooden dash is smooth and has a brilliant luster to it, complimenting the earthen tones of the interior fantastically. The wooden steering wheel rim is in fantastic shape although the spokes and center/horn button show in a much more original manner with some scratching signs of usage but would be considered to be in great shape.Functionality & AccessoriesThe interior of the car was treated to the same extensive restoration and because of this, all gauges and, knobs and switches are in excellent and well-functioning shape. The gauges themselves are clear and colorful and display their dedicated info without fault.Notable FlawsThe only thing of note is the fact that both the spokes of the steering wheel and center hub/ horn button appear in a more original state than the rest of the car, showing signs of usage such as small scuffing and imperfections.ENGINE BAY, TRUNK, UNDERSIDEEngine BayThe condition of the engine bay is perfectly in line with the rest of the car. All painted surfaces have a smooth finish to them, polished surfaces are shiny and clean. All the hoses are supple and new with the proper clamps in the correct locations. All the components are accurate and correct and there are no signs of any issues to report.Trunk AreaThe trunk area is again very well done with the proper floor mats and trim pieces in place. The battery is tucked neatly to the right with the proper tie-down and a convenient cut off switch in place. The spare wheel is clean and tidy and held in place with the proper leather strapped tie down. Beneath the floor mat, the fuel tank and other painted surfaces are smooth and consistent with no signs of poor bodywork or past issues.UndersideThe quality of the restoration carries over to the underside of the car and shows in a neat and tidy manner. The careful nature with which the car was driven over its 1200 miles is apparent as the underside is very clean with minimal road dirt and grime. Painted surfaces are smooth and consistent, the floors are solid, and components look to be in nice tidy order. There are no signs of visible leaks or issues to speak of.Notable FlawsThe only area of note is that in order to be Concours worthy the car could use a bit more intricate detailing on both the engine bay and underside. MECHANICALSEngineWith a little choke and a quick turn of the key the engine fires right to life with no hesitation or excess cranking. Once to temperature, it idles beautifully with no choke needed. The throttle response is great and the carbs appear very well tuned with no flat spots or hesitation in the power band. The engine is lively and torquey, a delight to drive.TransmissionThe clutch is light and smooth with a nice uptake and engagement. The selector moves easily between gears and there is a good positive feedback when selecting a particular gear. The 5-speed transmission holds excellent power and moves through all the gears with no issues.Brakes & SuspensionWhile the brakes have been upgraded they still are not modern technology and should be treated as such. They do however provide excellent stopping power and bring the car to a smooth, controlled, and issue free stop. The suspension is compliant and has no excess body roll or float. There are no strange noises or feelings when piloting the car down the road.TiresThe tires are all new Vredestein Sprint Classic’s and have a mere 1200 miles on them meaning that they have plenty of tread and years of enjoyment left.
