History of the 1968 AMC AMX:
American Motors Corporation seemed to feel a little left out of the Pony Car race with the unbelievable success of the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro leading the way so they decided to bring their own design to the market in 1968, the new 2-seater AMX, which stood for American Motors Experimental. In addition to the model being small, lightweight, and fitted with a host of standard features, they also provided engine options to ensure that the horsepower junkies could be satisfied as well! More so, legendary race driver Craig Breedlove piloted the AMX to 106 new National, as well as, International speed and endurance records, which proved the model to be a great design that leads to success at the race track! By 1970, the brand new AMX body design paved the way for Roger Penske (Penske Racing owner) to help Mark Donohue (Hall of Fame driver) succeed at the SCCA Trans-Am series for the next 6 straight years! It placed second in 1970, and first place the next three out of five years which blew many away as the vehicle was up against cars like the Mustang Boss 302, Camaro Z/28, and Plymouth Cuda AAR! Due to this, it comes with great surprise that these cars have yet to explode on the collector car market. Only time will tell, but it is our professional opinion that the performance packed AMX is already a sound blue chip investment!
